Fighting Corruption in Uganda is not a futile Exercise but a Required National priority
Animal farm was right about African revolutionaries. They are not fighting for you but for their families and relatives. Soon or later, they will become the very thing they fought. So if you support Chaos and civil war in the name of removing the dictator you should think twice. You will make your children refugees in a country that hates us.
Everything you hate about your country is due to corruption. The bad health care, the brutal and inefficient Police, the potholed roads, the crooks in parliament and the unsustainable debt burden. The tribalism and so called dictatorship are all due to corruption. So anytime you feel fed up with the status quo ask yourself what you can do to end corruption in your community. It starts with you.
It is great being a thief in Uganda. You can plunder billions of shillings of public resources without fear that you will be arrested, prosecuted and your illicitly acquired wealth confiscated. Instead you live the life of royalty and your family enjoys the best life imaginable. They drive the best cars, they live in posh neighborhoods and they do their weekend shopping in Paris.
Those thieves and crooks who are unlucky enough to be investigated and successfully prosecuted are given lenient sentences and their ill-gotten wealth is never successfully confiscated from them. Therefore, they serve their short prison sentences while their children and relatives live the good life and enjoy the ill-gotten wealth. Even the prison life of the rich and wealthy is clean, comfortable and happy and after a few short years it’s back to business as usual.
You have a choice not to be corrupt. There is a saying in Uganda that is not universally adopted by every Ugandan that says that when you go to a place where they eat dogs, you join in the dog eating or starve to death. Many Ugandans subscribe to this misguided philosophy which assumes that in dog eating country there are no other delicacies that you can enjoy and not starve. You should work hard and accumulate your wealth without stealing from anyone.
